It didn’t look good.Ī disk malfunction is a failure of or damage to any mechanical component of the disk device, or any component connected to it. Having a clear head is essential.ĭiskWarrior was able to generate a damage report. You probably shouldn’t do this kind of work if you’re angry. It would take a while to find the damaged disk – if it would find it at all. Part of the problem is that the software would just hang. That’s because there is a bit of a learning curve with DiskWarrior. DiskWarrior didn’t rush in like a knight in shining armor and save the day. Any little issue is amplified, making me even more aggravated. Needless to say, with broken hard drives and cables across my desk, I’m in a bad mood. Instead of just fixing the damage, it was like… whoa, whoa, whoa there slim… in this neck of the woods, we’re gonna need to see some ID… where’s your serial number? So, I used a different disk as a startup disk and I tried running DiskWarrior from the USB. I tried to boot from the USB and that didn’t work. The president of the company is “Al Dion”, which likely explains the meaning of “Alsoft”. Apparently, Alsoft (the creators of DiskWarrior) is headquartered in Texas. Normally, I’d use Norton Disk Doctor for this kind of thing, but that software was discontinued. I remember this app from my early days of working with Macs. One app in particular was mentioned frequently – DiskWarrior. Commercial software was often listed as a solution. Naturally, I searched the Internet for possible solutions. That’s when you start to realize how important computers are in modern life… family photos, emails, work stuff. But unfortunately, that was one of the disks with trouble. Normally, I’d just restore the files from a Time Machine backup. I even tried using some Terminal commands to restore the data. It seemed that the files were there, but I couldn’t simply copy the files to the disk. Apparently, there was severe damage to the file system. I don’t remember exactly what the report said, but I think it might have been the “File System Check Exit Code 8” error. I used Disk Utility, but it just couldn’t fix the trouble. With three dead drives this year, I decided to call in a clincher – DiskWarrior. Macs “just work”, so it can be unsettling when they stop working. Perhaps I’ve been overestimating the durability of Mac hardware and software. Yet, I suppose that is to be expected with older computers. Using DiskWarrior 5.2 while started (booted) from High Sierra, Mojave or Catalina.I’ve been encountering a strange number of disk problems lately. Perhaps you've tried to open a document and all that happens is a color wheel that spins and spins and spins Or when your Mac starts up, all you get is a blinking question mark Or you were in the middle of editing a movie and now. DiskWarrior will find your documents, photos, music and any other files when disaster strikes and things go missing.7) DiskWarrior 5.2 now runs within macOS 10.14 Mojave and macOS 10.15 Catalina Recovery. 6) DiskWarrior 5.2 is compatible with macOS 10.13 High Sierra, macOS 10.14 Mojave and macOS 10.15 Catalina when rebuilding Mac OS Extended external drives. Your Mac OS Extended external drives can be rebuilt as before. It only repairs the hard drive so that people can normally use their computers. However, people must know that Diskwarrior can’t replace deleted or formatted drives on their software. This is to prevent additional damages and lost data due to the broken hard drive. The main function of DiskWarrior is to help save your hard drive on your Mac.
